Abstract

C.A. Doxiadis was a rare case: an action-prone scientist coupled with a visionary philosopher. He happened to live in a fast-changing world: that demanded the development of new skills and new approaches to problems. H considered himself a world-wide "doctor of ailing cities", both in the developed and the underdeveloped world. One of the main challenges he he faced was the emergence of the use of computer science in planning. Although never fully explored, the ways this new situation affected his theory and practice are worth examining.
