Author Biography

Ian Fookes, University of Auckland

Deputy Editor of Ekistics and the New Habitat, Dr Ian Fookes is a lecturer at Waipapa Taumata Rau / University of Auckland, New Zealand. As part of the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics,  his research in Asian Studies traces New Zealand's relationship with Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on Japan. Specializing in exoticism, memory, and identity, his work explores the poetics of identity and people's sense of place. He is interested in how these ideas are constructed across cultures through travel writing, and one's interaction with space.
